Watergate Bay
Beach Overview
Home to the Extreme Academy and a very popular surf beach north of the main town of Newquay. Directly in front of the WatergateBay Hotel and the Beach Hut Cafe with many other facilities on site this is a real jewel of a spot. In fact if you are in the Newquay area it is really the best beach to head to. It works in anything from a SW round to a N wind.
A SW works pretty well and combined with swell offers up some great wave riding conditions. A westerly is on shore and will generally also pick up a reasonable swell at the same time. Thus direction mainly works well on the inside for twin tips with some great flat water areas between the waves combining with some good kickers for boosting as well as substantial pockets of white water to avoid. A NW and North wind combined with swell can also produce some excellent wave riding and some good kickers for boosting giving classic conditions.
It does get busy….
with beach users, surfers and other beach life activities so head north of the rocks by the steps and clear of the life guarded areas. When the beach is less busy and outside of life-guarded hours head out directly in front of the Beach Hut, where the beach is widest and the wind strongest.
